WHY DID WE CHOOSE TO MAKE GAMES WITH CERTIFIED WOOD?
Forests are an irreplaceable heritage that are endangered by degradation, deforestation and illegality. WORLDWIDE, 30% of timber is traded illegally. Most such wood originates in South America, Central Africa and South-East Asia.
In ITALY 10% of our timber is imported illegally. The Italian Statistics Office (2011) found that in the “agriculture, forestry and fishing” sector up to 50% of employees in some regions of the country are working illegally.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC™) is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organisation established in 1993 to promote the responsible management of forests and plantations. FSC™ promotes responsible forest management worldwide, which means the wood used comes from responsibly managed forests. In practical terms, this equates to:

Since 1924, our manufacturing has had a short supply chain: it’s in Lecco, right before our eyes. For close to a hundred years, we have nourished a passion for woodworking, a demanding work ethic and a desire to diversify. WOOD DESIGNERS
Our designers take traditional games and give them a contemporary makeover. The shapes, colours and materials are created to produce beautiful, practical games that can often double as furnishing accessories. Why should one have to put a game away after playing if children and adults like it? “green noughts and crosses” is an excellent example of this approach as the base is a hill on which the winner is the first to plant three trees in a row. Alternatively, the tiles for “domino tulips” actually form wooden tulips that glow in the dark, “shanghai maxi” has a ring that turns the sticks into a flower, and “makemaki” is a test of speed and skill for two Sushi Chefs who have to make the maki using the ingredients on the cards. milaniwood design unites aesthetics with an entertaining, educational side in wooden games.
