OUR VALUES

We create wooden games with contemporary designs that are fun, creative and educational, drawing on the latest trends without forgetting manual skill or the value of spending time together as a family, playing a board game. We produce everything ourselves, to ensure the desired quality. We make them with wood, the most natural of materials. We work using a combination of cutting-edge technology and age-old craft skills. We deliberately choose certification to protect the environment, where we live with our families and where our children will grow up.

When children, mum and dad all love a game,
we’ve done our job properly.

WE RESPECT

FORESTS
AND WORKERS

WHY DID WE CHOOSE TO MAKE GAMES WITH CERTIFIED WOOD?

Forests are an irreplaceable heritage that are endangered by degradation, deforestation and illegality. WORLDWIDE, 30% of timber is traded illegally. Most such wood originates in South America, Central Africa and South-East Asia.

In ITALY 10% of our timber is imported illegally. The Italian Statistics Office (2011) found that in the “agriculture, forestry and fishing” sector up to 50% of employees in some regions of the country are working illegally.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT MILANIWOOD GAMES ARE FSC™ CERTIFIED™?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC™) is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organisation established in 1993 to promote the responsible management of forests and plantations. FSC™ promotes responsible forest management worldwide, which means the wood used comes from responsibly managed forests. In practical terms, this equates to:

1 . Environmental respect >> to protect and maintain natural communities and high conservation value forests.

2 . Socially useful >> to respect the rights of workers, communities and indigenous peoples.

3 . Economically sustainable >> to build markets, add greater value and create equitable access to the benefits.

WHO GUARANTEES THAT MANAGEMENT IS ACTUALLY RESPONSIBLE?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC™) is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organisation established in 1993 to promote the responsible management of forests and plantations. Its members include NGOs and environmental groups (WWF, Greenpeace), social groups (National Aboriginal Forestry Association of Canada), forest owners, wood and paper processing and trading industries (Tetra Pack, Mondi), retail groups, researchers and experts. In total, there are around 900 members.

OUR PRODUCTS ARE

MADEINITALY

Since 1924, our manufacturing has had a short supply chain: it’s in Lecco, right before our eyes. For 4 family generations, Tamil has been producing accessories for cosmetic products, decorative shapes used on clothing, footwear and bags, caps for bottles and fragrance diffusers, knobs, handles, key rings, and the games in the milaniwood line. For close to a hundred years, we have nourished a passion for woodworking, a demanding work ethic and a desire to diversify. We combine artisan know how with innovative technologies to produce well-made, safe and timeless items and games. The hallmarks of our products around the world are creativity, ingenuity and attention to detail.

GAMES DESIGNED BY

WOOD DESIGNERS

Our designers take traditional games and give them a contemporary makeover. The shapes, colours and materials are created to produce beautiful, practical games that can often double as furnishing accessories. Why should one have to put a game away after playing if children and adults like it?  “green noughts and crosses” is an excellent example of this approach as the base is a hill on which the winner is the first to plant three trees in a row. Alternatively, the tiles for “domino tulips” actually form wooden tulips that glow in the dark, “shanghai maxi” has a ring that turns the sticks into a flower, and “makemaki” is a test of speed and skill for two Sushi Chefs who have to make the maki using the ingredients on the cards. milaniwood design unites aesthetics with an entertaining, educational side in wooden games.
